In these works that I am exhibiting in Gubbio, I have only substituted tactile and visual spatial language for audio-consequential language. I have chosen earth as the material; I have searched for words for a phrase that would deal only with the element “earth”. Like me, I assume that everyone involved in ceramics is connected, even veiledly, to alchemy and the four elements. In fact, I imagine that to make a pot the potter uses the essence of the earth, clay; shapes it by conquering “air”; stealing from the latter a place for a fluid material “water” and then accepting Empedocles’ complex “fire” which, as Bachelard writes, generates another complex: that of Prometheus, that is, wanting to understand what gives the sense of eternity: the slow passing of life or the ephemeral sacrifice of flame. The material I use is a mixture composed of various clays; the colors are given by baths in metallic salts; the position where they are placed is where the image originated.
